Arti & John planned the most meaningful wedding day at Castaway Portland. They had a lot of family coming in from out of town, and they wanted a space that allowed them to have both indoor and outdoor components and have with a good Portland vibe. They kept the decor and color palette timeless and romantic. Their family style dinner showcased south Asian flavors and spices while still being familiar and accessible to all their guests. At the end of the night, they had Pips Donuts serving chai and donuts – sharing a little slice of some of their favorite things in Portland with their guests. Arti’s family is part of a religious minority of Hindus originally from Afghanistan. Their ceremony included a beautiful mix of Hindu wedding traditions and Western traditions. Their wedding kicked off with a baraat, the groom’s procession/parade. John rode on a bicycle pedicab – instead of a horse – total Portland style! DJ Adi made a custom playlist for the baraat and played the dhol (drum) as all their guests danced around Castaway Portland on the streets with the Portland bridges in the background – the energy was at an all time high! Arti wore a bridal lehenga for the wedding ceremony in a more modern color (pink instead of red). And for the reception, she changed into a gorgeous white dress made in India and intricately hand-embroidered. It was the perfect mix of both Indian and American style! The day was filled with such beautiful emotions!
